Service
and advocacy have always been the cornerstone of Zonta, both internationally and locally. An estimated 500,000 people
every year receive help from Zonta's international and local service projects.
The
continuing service projects are the Amelia Earhart Fellowship Awards Program, and the Michael J. Freeman Scholarships. New
projects have included special partnerships with the U.N. Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) and the U.N. International Children's
Emergency Fund (UNICEF).
The Zonta Club of Louisville also supports service projects which foster the
development of women and children in the metro area. Service projects are selected each year from grant applications.
Grants have been given in the past to The Center for Women & Families, Spouse Abuse & Rape Relief Center, Jefferson
County Public School Adult Literacy Program, Kentucky Girl Scouts, Maryhurst, Home of the Innocents, Habitat for Humanity,
Shawnee High School's Aviation Program, among others.
We have an ongoing scholarship trust set up at the University of
Louisville and at Spalding university for single mothers and women with limited means seeking bachelor's degrees.
